Congratulations Sharon! Presenting to a national audience, Sharon Katz, Casa Valentina's Program Director, was a featured speaker at Daniel Memorial's National Independent Living Conference, "Growing Pains 2009", in Nashville, Tennessee in September 2009.
Now in its 22nd year, this conference is a must-attend event for youth service professionals, independent living professionals and youth ages 15+. Presenters include top leaders and experts in the field of independent living. Sharon presented the workshop: Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: Transitioning Young Women from Foster Care to Independence.

Only 31% of former foster youth in Miami Dade County are employed (according to FIU's 2008 Study on the Challenge of Housing Former Foster Youth in Miami Dade County).
At Casa Valentina, we encourage our residents, who are all full-time students, to seek part-time employment to help them save money for their futures. Sixty percent of our residents are currently employed.
